Day Five - somewhere in Kentucky

Stacy: Today was a really long day. We started at Bass Pro Shop in Independence Missouri. We then drove 10.5 hours to end up at Mammoth Cave National Park in Mammath Cave Kentucky. We drove and drove and drove. We stopped once for lunch and twice for gas. Not a lot to see today. Missouri was not the best state we have been through. I am betting that they make a boat load of money charging for billboards. I seriously have never seen so many billboards! There were thousands of them along the highway. Apparently fireworks are also a big business there, based on the amount of billboard advertising there is for them.

We have a minor snafu in Kentucky. We trusted Maggie (the Magellan) to get us to the park, but she got turned around when we got off the main road. She was seriously bouncing all around. We figured this out a little too late and were lost. We knew we had to get to the park by 9:30 pm to check in. We did not have time to eat and the resturant was not open when we got here. The lady at the front desk said that if we hurried to the next town, we could eat at the Cracker Barrel. We got there at 10 minutes to 10:00 (closing time). The were super nice. We were the only ones there and the manager got out his map of all of the Cracker Barrels in the US. He then proceeded to sit down with us while we ate our meal and tell us all about the area. Scott wanted to hear the waiter say "Chicken Fried Chicken" in his deep southern accent.

So before we hit the hay, we need to give a shout out to our boys Jeff, Jeremiah, and Mitch at the Cracker Barrel in Cave City, Kentucky. In the words of Jeff, "if ya'll ever get lost, just stop by a Cracker Barrel and they'll set you on the right path!"
