Das Great Day

I don’t speak German, but I am pretty sure that the word “Das” means something close to the word “the” in English.  A lot of the shops here in Leavenworth have the word Das in them.  It makes them seem so more authentic.  Das Hat Shop, Das Candle Connection, Das Post Office Saloon.  See, doesn’t that make you feel like you are really in a Bavarian Village?

This morning was especially smoky and hazy. But as the day went on, the smoke blew out and the sky cleared. We enjoyed dinner on the roof top on this building:

We also spent the majority of the day walking around all the shops.  I think that because it is a Thursday, not many people were in town.  Usually when we come everything is packed and there are people everywhere.  Not so much this visit, which we are really liking.

Scott really liked this guy.

We felt bad just taking a picture of him, so Scott suggested that I put a couple of bucks in his donation can.  I did so as I walked by.  The guy mumbled something about the fire department thanks you.  We asked him what he said and he told us that he is retired and spends his days playing his music machine on the streets taking donations for the local volunteer fire department.  They are currently in need of new radios.  He has managed to purchase six of the ten they need just by people making donations.

Of course the highlight of our adventure here in Leavenworth was to see the Leavenworth Summer Theater production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.  The play did not disappoint.  Unfortunately we could not take any photos so you will just have to take my word for it.  There is nothing like community theater on an outdoor stage in a park containing a national fish hatchery.  Some adventures are truly one-of-a-kind.

We depart here tomorrow, but not before we stock up at Das Sausage Garten and Das Cheesemonger Shop!
